Rayne man shot by Acadia Parish sheriff's deputy in Crowley, accused of attempted murder of police officer | Crime

CROWLEY, La. — Detectives assigned to the Louisiana State Police Bureau of Investigation were tasked by the Acadia Parish Sheriff's Office (APSO) to investigate a deputy-involved shooting in Crowley on June 3.

The investigation resulted in the arrest of Jacob Richard, 52, of Rayne.

The preliminary investigation revealed that Richard, wanted for several crimes, was spotted by two APSO deputies on South Avenue H. As deputies attempted to arrest Richard, a brief foot chase ensued. During the arrest, Richard stabbed and injured both deputies with a knife, causing one of them to fire his service weapon and strike Richard.

CROWLEY, La. (KADN) — At least one Acadia Parish Sheriff's Office deputy shot a suspect and two deputies were injured, according to Louisiana State Police Bureau of Investigation detectives .

Richard was transported to a local hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries. Following his release, he was incarcerated at the Acadia Parish Prison by APSO on various outstanding arrest warrants. The injured deputies were also treated at a local hospital for non-life-threatening injuries and then released.

Louisiana State Police detectives charged Richard with two counts of attempted murder of a police officer on Wednesday, June 12.

The case is still ongoing.
