Rapid City man sentenced for trespassing/threats

RAPID CITY, SD (KELO) — A Rapid City man was sentenced to prison for forcing his way into two separate homes and threatening the residents, according to the Pennington County State's Attorney's Office.

Julius Holy Bear, 36, was sentenced Tuesday for his criminal actions on October 8, 2022.

According to Major Crimes Unit Prosecutor Adam Shiffermiller, Holy Bear was under the influence of methamphetamine when he threatened to sexually assault a resident and then entered another home, where three children were present, and threatened the resident with a hammer. Shiffermiller also said being high on meth was no excuse for Hoy Bear's actions.

Seventh Circuit Judge Heidi Linngren said Holy Bear was lucky he wasn't killed by a homeowner during the invasions, which would have been justified.

During the hearing, Holy Bear apologized for his actions, saying, “I need help. »

Judge Linngren imposed the following sentences on all four counts, which will be served concurrently:

  • Second degree burglary – 15 years in prison
  • Attempted first degree burglary – 10 years in prison
  • Aggravated assault – 10 years in prison
  • Threat to commit a sexual offense – 10 years in prison
