Randolph County Sheriff's Office Opens New Substation in Trinity

Public safety in the Town of Trinity is being improved with a new Randolph County Sheriff's Office substation.

The sheriff's office is headquartered in Asheboro, meaning officers sometimes had to drive more than 30 minutes to get to a situation in Trinity. The new substation allows officers to stay in the city to work, bringing response time to an average of six and a half minutes.

“If someone shoots you, we don’t want to wait 20 minutes. I want someone here in five, six, seven hours,” said Trinity Mayor Richard McNabb.

The sign is raised and the doors are officially open at the new Trinity Substation.

This is a partnership between the city and the Randolph County Sheriff's Office, with the goal of making all citizens feel safe.

“If you look around or drive around town, you'll see a lot of new homes being built and the population increasing,” said Ricci D'Angelo, sergeant with the Randolph County Sheriff's Office. “So over time, over the last three years, we've worked together to really increase the presence here – the police presence.

With the new substation, residents will see more watchful eyes moving around.

“We went from two deputies to seven deputies, so we will have 24/7 coverage here at Trinity,” D’Angelo said.

More officers means faster response times and easier access to citizens.

“We don’t waste time with the agents. They can patrol and do their jobs here,” McNabb said. “When they had to go to Asheboro for paperwork or whatever, it was an hour there, an hour fiddling around and an hour back.”

McNabb said the operation of the substation in the city has been successful so far.

“At church, people tell me all the time, 'Yes, I like it, they're at my house twice a day,'” he said. “It makes everyone feel safer.”

The building will also include full sheriff's office capabilities, such as fingerprinting and permit processing. It will also provide a secure family exchange point and other services for residents.

“We can do anything here that you can do up to Asheboro,” D’Angelo said. “So now there's no reason for any of the citizens around here to drive to Asheboro. You can come here, and we can handle everything here, internally.

The new substation is located in the old Trinity City Hall. Officials said deputies will enter and exit the station each day, so residents will be welcome to come in and ask questions at any time.
