Randall Cobb's family 'lucky to be alive' after fleeing house fire

NFL wide receiver Randall Cobb and his family fled a devastating fire at their Nashville home, according to a joint statement Randall and his wife, Aiyda, posted on Instagram Wednesday.

“Unfortunately, we don't know what, if anything, can be saved, but this reminds us that nothing is more important than the health of our family,” said the Cobbs, who have three young sons.

Aiyda Cobb said on her Instagram story that the incident happened when a Tesla charger caught fire in the garage late at night, quickly spreading throughout the house. She added that the family is “lucky to be alive” and that they escaped “with nothing but the clothes on their backs and no shoes on their feet.”

Randall Cobb posted photos on his Instagram account showing the charred garage and two burned cars. After evacuating the family, Cobb returned to the house to rescue their dog, Louie, according to the release.

The family also thanked the firefighters who responded to the scene.

“I can't get the image of the brave firefighter getting into position out of my head; he didn’t even have water to draw on yet,” the statement said. “I really thought the cars were going to explode and we were going to lose him in this tragedy. He's a true hero. »

The Cobbs added that they were relying on friends in Nashville to assess the damage, but that everyone was “safe and healthy.”

“We are grateful for our incredible community in Nashville and the support of our close friends who have provided a temporary roof over our heads and shoulders,” the statement said.

Cobb recorded five receptions and a touchdown with the New York Jets last season. He previously played for the Green Bay Packers, where he was a key weapon from 2011-18 and 2021-22. He has 630 receptions, 7,624 yards and 54 touchdowns in a career that began when Green Bay selected him in the second round of the 2011 NFL Draft.
