Queen Ifrica's father Derrick Morgan sues her for defamation over rape allegations

Ska great Derrick Morgan's legal team has filed a defamation suit against his daughter, reggae singer Queen Ifrica, alleging damage to her reputation following rape allegations she made against him last year.

The lawsuit, filed by lawyer Charles Ganga-Singh on June 12, 2024, in the Supreme Court of Jamaica, alleges “financial losses and damages.” The file, obtained by DancehallMag, shows that Morgan made good on his threat to seek redress in court. He had asked Ganga-Singh to sue Queen Ifrica for several defamatory statements, videos and interviews made on August 1, 2023.

“Defendant made several defamatory statements, videos and participated in several interviews making defamatory comments about Plaintiff, published such defamatory statements, videos and interviews and made said defamatory statements available to the public for publication , republication, republication… which, when heard, led the public to infer that the plaintiff had engaged in incest, rape and other sexual offenses,” the document states.

“As a result, the plaintiff suffered serious damage to his character and reputation, and suffered financial loss and damage. »

The 84-year-old ska singer is also demanding an apology from his ex-daughter and wants her to remove defamatory comments she allegedly made on an online platform.

“I am innocent,” said the Harder than hard the singer said DancehallMag. “I just want to clear my name, and she needs to apologize and say 'I'm sorry for saying that, nothing's wrong, then'”

Ganga-Singh believes that an apology, especially if delivered in a timely manner, can neutralize the harm caused, but it does not guarantee that a lawsuit will be avoided.

“Under the law, the respondent must be given the opportunity to retract his defamatory statements,” said lawyer Ganga-Singh, also known as Advoket in his capacity as a recording artist.

A retraction and apology can mitigate the damage caused by defamation. Technically, you can retract a defamatory statement without apologizing.

In August, via social media, Queen Ifrica revealed that as a child she had an estranged relationship with Morgan due to issues surrounding her mother. However, as an adult, she tried to reconnect with him.

Ifrica described a specific incident in lurid detail chronicling the alleged rape at Derrick Morgan's residence in Kingston. The singer further revealed that the traumatic incident motivated her to write the 2009 hit song. Dadwhich addresses incest.
