Quartz Lake public-use cabin burns, spreads to wildlands – Alaska Wildland Fire Information

5:00 p.m. — Firefighters from the Delta Junction Fire Department and the U.S. Army Garrison Fort Greely Fire Division extinguished the cabin flames while DOF firefighters controlled the spread of the fire with a garden hose. A rain shower on the fire aided suppression efforts. Firefighters declared the fire contained and under control after ensuring all hot spots were extinguished. The fire will be placed on watch status.

The cabin was not occupied at the time of the fire. It is currently unknown how the fire started.

This will be the last update today for the Quartz Lake Fire (#092).

4:00 p.m. — Alaska Division of Forestry and Fire Protection firefighters in the Delta region respond to a wildfire at Quartz Lake Monday afternoon. The Fairbanks Emergency Communications Center notified DOF that the Quartz Lake public use cabin in the parking lot was on fire. Firefighters who arrived on scene reported that the cabin was completely invaded and extending into the surrounding nature. The fire spread to the black spruce and was estimated at 0.25 acres. The firefighters were installing a fire network.
