Pueblo woman arrested by Colorado authorities for alleged child abuse

Pueblo County Sheriff's Office detectives arrested a woman accused of abusing two children, one of whom suffered life-threatening injuries.

Samantha Kimberly was taken into custody Saturday evening by authorities on charges of criminal abuse resulting in serious bodily injury and a second charge of child abuse due to injuries suffered by her two sons, ages 3 and 14, according to the office of the sheriff.

Deputies responded to a report around 5 p.m. Saturday at a home in Pueblo West regarding a report that a 3-year-old child was unconscious and breathing abnormally. Medical personnel were tending to the child when deputies arrived and found visible injuries on the child's body.

The child was transported to a local hospital and eventually airlifted to a hospital in Colorado Springs, according to the sheriff's office.

The sheriff's office said the 3-year-old is currently in a Colorado Springs hospital with life-threatening injuries, while the 14-year-old was treated at a local hospital for his injuries. He is now assigned to the Department of Social Services.
