Pueblo County Sheriff's Office mourns loss of K9 Mondy

(PUEBLO COUNTY, Colo.) — The Pueblo County Sheriff's Office (PCSO) announced Saturday, June 1 that K9 Mondy died on Monday, May 22.

According to PCSO, Mondy was an 8-year-old English Lab, born in England, who found his way to Czechoslovakia where he began training and then joined Worldwide K9 in San Antonio, Texas. Mondy joined PCSO in July 2019 where he completed several training courses and received several certifications during his four years of service,

In late 2023, Mondy was diagnosed with spinal cancer, which cut short his career.

PCSO said Mondy was a valuable asset to the department and even more valued as a partner and friend of Lt. Wolfe. Mondy has participated in a number of lost persons search operations, finding evidence, suspects and narcotics.

According to PCSO, Mondy's best-known job was in the District 70 school district, where he worked searching for narcotics and marijuana vape pens. Mondy also searched for narcotics in the Pueblo County Detention Center as well as several local jails.

PCSO said Mondy's favorite activity was riding in the patrol car.

“As we say goodbye, let us reflect on the memories that made Mondy an irreplaceable part of our lives,” PSCO said in a message. “Mondy came into our lives like a ball of fur, full of energy and curiosity. From the moment he awkwardly flung himself into our hearts, he brought lots of laughter and love. We will all miss you, Mondy! Thank you for being a great manager Lt. Wolfe and for taking such good care of Mondy!!!
