Published details of fight turned stabbing in Wilkes-Barre

WILKES-BARRE, LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) —Details have been released after a man was arrested for a fight that turned into a stabbing in Wilkes-Barre on Tuesday.

According to the Wilkes-Barre Police Department, officers were called to the 100 block of Bowman Street around 7:30 p.m. following initial reports of shots fired in the area.

Police said they found the suspect, identified as Anthony Perez, 29, of Nanticoke, hiding in the brush near Hancock Street.

Through further investigation, officers said they learned that a group of teenage girls had gone to Bowman Street to confront another juvenile, which ultimately led to the involvement of a grandmother.

The argument then led to a physical fight between adults during which the stabbing victim claimed she “heard someone disrespect her grandmother” and confronted Perez, as stated in the affidavit. During the fight, Perez allegedly stabbed the victim in the back with a knuckleduster that had a knife attached to it.

Investigators said Perez claimed he was attacked by the group with baseball bats. At the scene, officers recovered two bloody baseball bats in front of the Bowman Street home.

Perez was charged with aggravated assault, simple assault, reckless endangerment, disorderly conduct, harassment and evading arrest. He remains incarcerated in the Luzerne County Correctional Facility on $125,000 bail.
