Property manager: victim of fatal shooting may have got the wrong mobile home

The victim of a fatal shooting at a mobile home park Friday may have entered the wrong house when he was shot, the property manager says.

The Saratoga County Sheriff's Office received a call around 11:30 a.m. reporting a shooting at a residence at Northway Estates Mobile Home Park at 2560 US Route 9, next to the city offices.

Police arrived to find a man who had been shot. The man died at the scene. The investigation is focused on a residence on Raymond Drive.

Park management just sent a letter to residents saying they believe a person who came to visit a resident went to the wrong house and was shot by the homeowner who thought the visitor was an intruder.

A neighbor said he saw someone being led away in handcuffs. It is not yet known if anyone is under arrest or facing charges. Sheriff Michael Zurlo said there was no danger to the public.

A source tells NewsChannel 13 the shooting happened during an attempted burglary. Zurlo said he could not comment on the matter.

When asked if this incident was being investigated as a homicide, Zurlo said he had not been able to make that determination.

“I can't. We're not there yet, and I think as we dig deeper into the investigation and interviews, hopefully we'll have a better idea later today of what exactly happened been here,” he said.

New York State Police investigators will be investigating the scene.

When asked if there had been any burglaries at the mobile home park, he said no.

“We've had very little activity in this mobile home park,” he said.
