“Project Martini” claims 92 victims in human and drug trafficking cases

Durham Police yesterday announced a five-week drug and people trafficking investigation – Project Martini – which resulted in the arrest of 92 people, the laying of 113 criminal charges and the execution of 11 warrants. search.

In total, officers seized more than three kilograms of methamphetamine, more than a kilogram of cocaine, nearly a kilogram of fentanyl and $30,000 in cash. The total street value of the seized drugs was more than $600,000, according to a police release.

Although enforcement efforts were primarily in the Oshawa area, there was also a focus on Clarington, Whitby and Ajax, leading to the execution of 11 search warrants, 92 arrests and 113 criminal charges. The charges filed were related to drug trafficking, property crimes, violent crimes and obtaining sexual services. Recognizing that law enforcement efforts alone cannot solve these problems, team members also referred 62 people to public health support programs and 38 others to support programs for female workers. sex.

Project Martini was launched in response to concerns raised by business owners and residents in parts of Durham Region regarding human and drug trafficking. The Martini Project used overdose data to drive law enforcement and direct support efforts to areas that would have the greatest impact on community and victim safety. The project was led by divisional community response teams supported by the DRPS Drug Enforcement Unit and Anti-Human Trafficking Unit.

Clarington drug trafficking investigation

Police also announced that three men and a woman are facing charges following an investigation into drug trafficking at a Clarington residence.

On Tuesday, June 11, members of the Community Response Team (CIT), with the assistance of the Tactical Support Unit (UTC), concluded an investigation into drug trafficking in a residence in the area of Simpson Avenue and King Street East. A search warrant was executed at the residence resulting in several arrests and the seizure of numerous drugs.

Two suspects, aged 40 and 38, from Clarington, and two, aged 48 and 41, from Oshawa, have been charged. Additional names and details available at www.drps.ca. Police did not say whether they were detained or released.
