Pro-Palestinian protesters arrested following protest at Brooklyn Museum

BROOKLYN, NY (NBC, KYMA/KECY) – Dozens of people were arrested after pro-Palestinian protesters gathered at the Brooklyn Museum in New York Friday afternoon.

The rally began Friday afternoon, across from the Barclays Center, before protesters marched toward the museum, where they waved flags, held up posters and created a barrier between police and the building.

Protesters also reportedly set up tents in the museum lobby and unfurled a banner reading “Free Palestine” from the roof of the building.

New York Police Department (NYPD) officers broke up scuffles in the crowd and stopped protesters from throwing plastic bottles at officers.

At least 34 protesters were arrested according to an NYPD spokesperson.

The Brooklyn Museum said that unfortunately, existing and newly installed artwork on its plaza was damaged.
