Pro-Palestinian demonstrations in San Jose in front of the Northrop Grumman factory during Anti-Gun Week — Fight Back!

San Jose, CA – On Monday, June 24, more than two dozen demonstrators gathered in Sunnyvale to protest weapons manufacturer Northrop Grumman and to demand a shutdown of the war industry. The protest was organized by San Jose Against War as part of the Anti-War Action Network's National Anti-Gun Week.

The protest began at a local train station, where organizers handed out flyers to weekday travelers with information about local South Bay gun manufacturers, such as Northrop Grumman, Lockheed Martin and L3Harris. The crowd then headed toward the Northrop Grumman manufacturing plant, located a few blocks away. During the march, people held signs proclaiming “Northrop Grumman kills children” and chanted slogans such as “Northrop Grumman, you cannot hide – we accuse you of genocide!”

Upon arrival at the plant, protesters gathered in front of the Northrop Grumman sign just outside the gated complex. Several Sunnyvale police officers and Northrop Grumman private security guards monitored the protest nearby. The protesters were undeterred and continued to chant slogans directly directed at the Northrop Grumman employees inside.

The Raging Grannies sang a powerful song of protest against the war. Noble Mushtak of San Jose Against War spoke about Northrop Grumman's direct role in the bombing of Palestine, saying, “Northrop Grumman is directly complicit in the Israeli genocide. They have an agreement with Elbit Systems, Israel's largest military contractor, to supply components for Israel's main aircraft, the F35 aircraft. »

Mushtak added that Northrop Grumman “also creates the warfare system and fire control radar for the F16, which has been used repeatedly for attacks not only in the West Bank and Gaza, but also in Lebanon, where they have targeted civilian homes, civilian infrastructure and refugee camps. They target the most vulnerable people in the world, in Palestine and Lebanon.

During the protest, participants learned of Julian Assange's release. Protesters gave impromptu speeches about the importance of journalistic exposure of US war crimes by Julian Assange and celebrated this victory, which is a victory for all anti-war activists.

The protesters were diverse, ranging from children to the elderly. They made it clear that South Bay residents strongly oppose the Israeli genocide in Gaza and any U.S.-backed war, and recognize the active role that local arms manufacturers play in these ongoing atrocities.
