Prince Harry 'regrets' missing Trooping the Color, not Meghan Markle

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle feel differently about missing the Trooping the Color 2024 event.

The couple were snubbed from the annual military parade which celebrates King Charles III's birthday for the second year running, and royal expert Richard Fitzwilliams told The Sun that Harry regretted not taking part in the ceremony.

“I think Harry was always interested in military matters,” Fitzwilliams said. “I think he definitely sees the way the rift has happened with the royal family. Which, as I say in my opinion, is the Sussexes' fault.

Fitzwilliams continued: “We know they wanted an apology from the royal family for the way they were treated when they were senior members of it. They certainly won't understand this. But I think there will be some regret.

The British commentator stressed that “the army played a very important role” in Harry's life. The Duke of Sussex completed two tours of Afghanistan, one from 2007 to 2008, then another from 2012 to 2013.

“I would have thought it was natural for him to feel some regret [not being at Trooping the Colour]” said Fitzwilliams.

As for Harry's wife, Fitzwilliams said: “I think Meghan would frankly be indifferent to a ceremony like Trooping the Color.”

“I don’t know if she would watch it or not, but I don’t think it would mean much to her,” he added. “If that had been the case, she would have managed to carve out a position within the royal family where she could have been useful.”

Unsurprisingly, Harry and Meghan, 42, were not invited to Trooping the Color in London on Saturday.

Charles, 76, Queen Camilla, Prince William, Kate Middleton, Princess Charlotte, Prince George and Prince Louis were all in attendance.

The Sussexes were also not on the guest list last year, the inaugural year of Trooping the Color during the reign of King Charles.

The couple, who currently live in California with their two children, stepped back from official royal duties in 2020.

Before that, they attended Trooping the Color in 2018 after their royal wedding at Windsor Castle and in 2019.

As he is separated from his family members, Harry did not meet any members of the royal family during his three-day trip to London last month.

He returned to his home country for the 10th anniversary of the Invictus Games and stayed in a hotel instead of royal accommodation.

Representatives for the exiled royal confirmed to the Post that Harry would not meet his estranged father in London due to the king's “busy” schedule. He last visited Charles in February for 45 minutes after the monarch revealed his cancer diagnosis.

Harry and Meghan have been at odds with the royal family since moving to the United States.

The couple have criticized the company multiple times, including in their explosive television interview with Oprah Winfrey, their six-part Netflix documentary and Harry's memoir, “Spare.”
