Prajwal's brother Suraj Revanna sent to jail for alleged sexual assault of JD(S) worker

Dr Suraj Revanna, a member of the Karnataka Legislative Council (MLC), elder son of HD Revanna and brother of Prajwal Revanna, was on Sunday sentenced to 14 days in jail by a Bengaluru court in connection with an abuse case sexual.

Suraj Revanna was arrested by Hassan police today morning after his interrogation at Hassan cyber station on Saturday evening.

A First Information Report (FIR) was registered against Suraj under sections 377 (unnatural offences), 342 (unlawful detention), 506 (criminal intimidation), 34 (act committed by several persons with common intention) on the basis of a complaint filed by a young person who is also an activist of his party, Janata Dal (secular).

The young man had complained to the Director General of Police (DGP) and the Home Minister that Suraj Revanna had sexual relations with him at Gannigada farm in Channarayapatna taluk. He also alleged that he and his family were threatened by Suraj Revanna and his close friend Shivakumar of Hanumanahalli village.

Meanwhile, the Holenarsipur police registered the case based on a complaint lodged by Shivakumar, Suraj's close aide against the young man. Shivakumar, who in his complaint identified himself as Suraj Revanna brigade treasurer, alleged that the youth had threatened to accuse Revanna of sexual assault if he did not help him get a job. Shivakumar also claimed that the young man demanded ₹5 crore to avoid filing the allegedly false complaint.

The first family of Janata Dal (secular) has recently faced several controversies. With Suraj's arrest, HD Revanna's two sons Prajwal and Suraj are now in jail on rape charges, while HD Revanna and his wife Bhavani Revanna are out on bail in a kidnapping case.

During the Lok Sabha elections, hundreds of videos showing Prajwal sexually assaulting women were leaked. He visited Germany on April 27, a week after casting his vote in Hassan and just before the second phase of voting in Karnataka. The Karnataka government has set up a special investigation team to probe the sexual assault allegations against Prajwal, who was arrested on May 31 upon his return to India.

HD Revanna has been jailed in connection with an alleged kidnapping case. The complainant claimed that HD Revanna kidnapped one of Prajwal's alleged victims to prevent him from reporting to authorities. He was arrested on May 4 and released 10 days later.

Bhavani, also accused in the kidnapping case, was released on anticipatory bail last week.
