Post-fire containment increases to 61%

The multi-agency post-fire response led to a further increase in the size of its containment line, officials announced Friday morning.

The news also led to a change in evacuation orders and warnings, according to Kristian Litz, chief intern for CalFire's operations section.

“If you look at the sky, you don't see a lot of smoke, not a lot of aerial activity up there…I want to let you know, that's why we're letting people go home,” Litz said . in a video posted on social media platform X Friday morning, “and we are changing the evacuation plan.”

The fire's footprint remained at approximately 15,690 acres Friday, while containment increased to 61%.

As of Friday afternoon, evacuation orders were still posted for south of Gorman Post Road, west of Interstate 5, east of the county line and north of Pyramid Lake.

Warnings remained for areas south of Pyramid Lake, west of Interstate 5, east of the county line and just north of Templin Highway.

CalFire was still working with the Los Angeles County Fire Department and the U.S. Forest Service on hot spots inside the fire, with more than 1,500 personnel spread across the three agencies.

“However, there is still heat inside. We are focused on securing the entire perimeter of this fire,” he added. “We will be patrolling for the next few days.”

He also mentioned that the forecast called for more heat over the next few days “and some wind changes,” so firefighters were really focused on making sure any further outbreaks of flames, especially along the corridor of Interstate 5, be dealt with quickly.

No firefighters were injured as a result of the incident, although firefighters reported one injury. Fire reports indicated it was a resident who suffered a leg injury, but not directly from the fire. The injury was reported because it occurred near the burned area of Hungry Valley Park.
