Portsmouth couple wakes up to find car damaged by shooting

PORTSMOUTH, Va. (WAVY) — Portsmouth police responded to a call of shots fired early Friday morning, and while no one was injured, a car was seriously damaged.

A woman, identified as Jessica, said the gunshots woke her up early this morning, but she said she and her husband didn't realize until hours later that one of the shots had hit their car.

She said it was not the first shooting outside their home, near the intersection of Winchester Drive and Loudoun Avenue, since they began living there in 2016.

Around 2:30 a.m., they heard gunshots and looked outside to make sure everyone was OK. Seeing no one, they went back to bed.

She said her husband had to leave early for work and when he went out and got in the car, he noticed something was wrong.

“He gets in the car, tries to defrost the windshield and notices the wiper blade on the back. He looks back and there's a rock in the window. When he gets out, that's when he notices there were police cars and police officers talking to some of the neighbors. So he calls the officer over and shows him the damage.”

She said the officer told her husband that their car wasn't the only one that had been hit. She said officers remained at the scene and collected evidence for some time Thursday night.

10 On Your Side has reached out to police to see if they have any suspicious information in this case, but have not yet received a response.
