Porter County Sheriff's Office to investigate officer involved shooting in Portage

Go to content The Porter County Sheriff's Office (PCSO) was asked to investigate an officer involved shooting, according to a PCSO news release. Police say around 1:08 a.m. Wednesday, the Portage Police Department requested the Porter County Sheriff investigate the officer involved shooting. The preliminary investigation shows that on Tuesday around 11:21 a.m., officers were dispatched to the 1200 block of Marine View Drive for a welfare check. A man armed with a firearm was located in the area, according to police. The man was transported to an area hospital with a single gunshot wound. Police say there is no threat to the immediate area or neighboring communities. The Porter County Sheriff's Office said the officer involved and the man's identity will be released at a later time.
