Porsche crash in Pune: Shivani Agarwal, mother of teenager, arrested for “tampering with evidence”

Shivani Agarwal, mother of the 17-year-old accused in the Pune Porsche accident case, has been arrested. The arrest comes days after it was found that the teenager's blood sample had been replaced with that of a woman during a breathalyzer test at Sasson Hospital. This led to speculation that it could be her mother, following which she remained incommunicado.

Sources said she was apprehended for tampering with evidence and for being present at the hospital when blood samples were taken. She will be present for questioning around 11:30 a.m., a source added.

Shivani's statement in the case had already been recorded by the Pune crime branch at Agarwal's residence. Sources had earlier said News18 that the Pune crime branch has also summoned nurses, who are part of the staff of Sassoon hospital. They were questioned over the exchange of blood samples, sources added.

Doctors from Sassoon Hospital submitted their report to the commission of inquiry on Wednesday (May 29). The Maharashtra Medical Education (MME) department on May 27 formed a committee headed by Dr Pallavi Sapale, dean of Mumbai's Grants Medical College, after police claimed that the teenager's blood samples had were thrown away and replaced with those of another person, which showed no traces of alcohol, at the Sassoon General Hospital in Pune.

Police arrested Dr Ajay Taware, head of the state hospital's forensic medicine department, senior medical officer Dr Shrihari Halnor and staff member Atul Ghatkamble in connection with the incident.

Two IT professionals in their 20s were killed after their motorcycle was hit by a speeding Porsche, allegedly driven by a 17-year-old, in the early hours of May 19 in the area of Kalyani Nagar in Pune. According to police, the teenager, son of builder Vishal Agarwal, was drunk at the time.
