Pune, May 31: A local court in Pune on Friday remanded in police custody for 14 days the father and grandfather of the minor involved in the Porsche case for their role in the alleged kidnapping and confinement of their driver. Real estate developer Vishal Agarwal and his father were produced before the court of Judicial Magistrate (First Class) AA Pande after their police remand ended.

According to police, the driver was with the minor in the Porsche when the luxury car hit a two-wheeler, killing two software engineers in Pune's Kalyani Nagar area on May 19. The father-son duo allegedly threatened the driver to take responsibility for the accident. They allegedly kidnapped him and illegally locked him in their house. The driver's wife released him from the servants' quarters of the accused's bungalow in Vadgaon Sheri area. The prosecution requested the extension of the police pre-trial detention, believing that there was progress in the case with “the recovery of the phone and a car used in the commission of the crime”. He said their further detention was necessary because the accused were not cooperating in the case. The defense lawyer opposed the request for custody, arguing that the prosecution had already had sufficient time to investigate the case. Since they have already recovered the car, the phone and the CCTV footage, there is no need for further custody, he said. After hearing both parties, the judge placed the accused in judicial custody for 14 days. While the minor was sent to an observation home till June 5, the case took on a new dimension after police said his blood samples were exchanged at Sassoon General Hospital to show that he was not drunk at the time of the accident. Police arrested Dr Ajay Taware, then head of the forensic medicine department at Sassoon Hospital, physician Dr Shrihari Halnor and employee Atul Ghatkamble for allegedly tampering with the minor's blood samples.
