Pune Police Commissioner Amitesh Kumar told The Times of India that the minor's father, a renowned builder in the city, and his mother had put pressure on Gangadhar.

“We have recorded the driver’s statement. He mentioned that on Sunday around 2:45 a.m. (after the accident), the builder (boy's father) called him. The manufacturer told him to claim that he was driving the car at the time of the accident. The builder's wife, too emotional, asked him to take responsibility for the accident. His family members gave him different incentives to take responsibility,” the senior police officer was quoted as saying by ToI.

On Saturday, following a complaint from Gangadhar, the Pune police booked Vishal and Surendra under sections 365 and 368 of the IPC for kidnapping, threatening and confining the driver at the family residence in Wadgaonsheri on the night of the incident to force him to admit the accusation. crime.

Presenting him in court on Saturday, Pune police said Gangadhar's clothes were recovered from Agarwal's house. They also requested custody of the BMW, in which the driver was allegedly kidnapped.

The teenager's grandfather was remanded in police custody until May 28. His lawyer said Surendra was in Delhi on the night of the incident with his wife. He was a well-known builder in the town before his family separated.

In court, police cited the grandfather's alleged criminal past to seek custody and protect Gangadhar. Surendra was involved in cheating cases, two attempted murders and criminal threats, according to police.

Vishal, arrested on Tuesday and currently in jail in another case related to the accident, was also mentioned in the first information report (FIR).

The juvenile is currently in a government observatory in Yerawada after a Juvenile Justice Board (JJB) canceled his bail application on Wednesday.

What happened on May 19?

On May 19, a Porsche, allegedly driven by the teenager who police said was in an inebriated state, rammed into two software engineers riding a motorcycle in the Kalyani Nagar area. The collision resulted in the death of Anish Awadhiya and Ashwini Koshta, both aged 24.

Kumar told ToI, “After the accident, the minor, his friends and the driver were taken to the police station. At first, the driver continued by claiming that he was behind the wheel. The police did not believe him and filed a complaint against the minor.

According to the police, after recording his statement on May 19, Vishal and his family followed the driver when he was returning home. “They forced him to sit in their car and drove him to their bungalow in Wadgaonsheri. The driver was forced to sit in a room and his phone was confiscated. No one was allowed to meet him. The next day, the driver's wife went to the builder's bungalow in search of her husband. But she was not allowed to meet him. The builder's family members made many 'promises' to her and asked her to cajole her husband to take responsibility for the accident after creating a scene there,” the commissioner told ToI .

He added: “Later that day the driver was allowed to go home with a warning. He then remained “underground” for two days and resurfaced on Thursday. When we took him to the criminal section for questioning on Thursday, things unfolded on this aspect of the case. Given the criminal history of the boy's grandfather, we provided round-the-clock protection to the driver under the Witness Protection Act. The criminal section was tasked with investigating the three cases: the accident, the case against the minor's father and pubs, and this new case of kidnapping and sequestration.
