Porsche accident in Pune: 2 doctors arrested for tampering with accused teenager's blood sample | Pune News

PUNE: Two doctors of Sassoon General Hospital were arrested on Monday for destroying evidence against the minor accused in the Porsche accident in Pune that killed two technicians.

Among those arrested was the head of the hospital's forensic department.

Pune Police Commissioner Amitesh Kumar told TOI, “We have arrested Taware and Halnor for tampering with blood samples and manipulating blood sample reports. We studied the whole procedure in the hospital and carried out the manipulation. Our team then decided to arrest the two doctors. » .

“Both are posted in the forensic department of the hospital,” Kumar said.

“On May 19, around 11 a.m., the blood sample taken from Sassoon Hospital was thrown into a dustbin in the hospital and the blood sample of another person was collected and sent to the laboratory forensics. During the investigation, we found Srihari Halnor replaced him on the instructions of the forensic science department of Sassoon, Ajay Tawre he added.

The accident, which occurred in the early morning of May 19, led to the death of two IT professionals when their motorcycle was hit by a Porsche Taycan car in Kalyaninagar at 2.30 am, which was allegedly driven by the minor .

Police also obtained CCTV footage from one of the pubs visited by the boy, where he allegedly paid a bill amounting to Rs 48,000.

The minor accused, who was taken to Sasoon Hospital for medical examination, reportedly had his blood sample replaced with another during investigation.

According to police, the teenager was under the influence of alcohol at the time of the incident. It was later discovered that the minor's blood report had been swapped with that of another person who had not consumed alcohol.

As police awaited blood test reports, the manipulation was revealed. To prevent further tampering, the police took two samples from the boy. According to the Pune Police Commissioner, a second blood sample indicated alcohol consumption on the part of the accused teenager.

Initially, the Juvenile Justice Board granted the teenager bail and asked him to write an essay on road accidents. However, due to public outrage over the lenient treatment and a review request submitted by the police, the teenager was remanded in an observation house until June 5.

Earlier, the Crime Branch unit had arrested the grandfather of the accused minor on May 25 in connection with the accident. The Pune City Commissioner said a separate FIR was lodged against the grandfather under sections 365 and 368 of the IPC.

The driver, Gangadhar, lodged a complaint with the police, claiming that he was forcibly taken to the house of the accused grandfather on the night of May 19 when he was leaving the Yerawada police station.

The accused grandfather and his father allegedly threatened Gangadhar, snatched his phone and forcibly locked him in their bungalow in an attempt to force him to take responsibility for the crime instead of his minor grandson.
