Police officers in Nairobi have arrested a teenager who was filmed beating and injuring a police officer in Mirema, Nairobi County.

The clip, which went viral on social media on Sunday, shows the driver, a 19-year-old, beating the police officer who then landed in a ditch.

According to reports, authorities found the motorist on Sunday evening and questioned him overnight.

A clip showing the driver being questioned by police suggests he was tortured and insulted.

In the footage, the teenager revealed he has never attacked a police officer and the latest incident was his first encounter. He claimed that the police officer was asking for excessive amounts.

Another video clip indicated that the suspect was arrested while he was in a white car. The police believed the teenager was in Mirema for a nightclub experience.

Reports indicate that the suspect was a gang leader in Mwiki and had 10 cases pending in court.

An earlier report from Kenyans.co.ke on the incident said it began on Sunday morning when the traffic police officer stopped the driver for trying to make a U-turn and obstructing traffic.

During the encounter, the police officer got into the car and directed the driver towards the police station.

However, the driver swerved and drew a sword from under his seat, forcing the officer out of the vehicle.

A police report then indicated that the driver continued his attack on the police officer who was injured.

The public, who had gathered to witness the attack, then transported the police officer to a health facility for treatment.

For specialized treatment, the police officer was shifted to Mama Lucy Hospital.
