Police stop teen from committing suicide after lover refuses pregnancy

State Police Spokesperson, SP Benjamin Hundeyinmade this known in a message he shared on his X handle, @benHundeyin, Thursday.

He said officers of the Ikorodu Area Command rescued the woman.

“On June 29 at approximately 2:00 p.m., a concerned citizen notified law enforcement that a young girl was attempting suicide by ingesting a noxious chemical known as Sniper.

“Responding quickly to the information, officers were dispatched to the scene where the girl was found and prevented from harming herself.

“Upon her rescue, the woman, whose identity remains confidential, confessed that she had been driven to the brink of suicide due to severe emotional distress,” Hundeyin said.

The spokesperson said the lady revealed she had been impregnated by a man who then refused to take responsibility for the pregnancy.

He said the woman also revealed that she had been the victim of a fraudster who had defrauded her of her income from her point of sale (POS) business, further compounding her emotional and financial hardship.

According to him, the young woman is currently receiving the necessary psychological support while the investigation is underway to identify and apprehend all the individuals involved in her situation.

“The command wishes to stress the importance of mental health awareness and encourage anyone facing similar challenges to seek help promptly.”
