Police respond to shooting near Roosevelt High School

Police suspect a person in a vehicle opened fire before driving away, hitting another vehicle in the process.

PORTLAND, Ore. — No one was injured in a shooting outside Roosevelt High School early Tuesday afternoon, according to the Portland Police Bureau (PPB). Several vehicles were damaged.

Officers responded shortly after noon to the school on North Central Street. According to PPB, they determined someone fired a gun from North Central, near the Roosevelt Baseball Field.

A car was struck by gunfire and another car appeared to have been struck by the suspect's vehicle as it drove away from the scene. No people were hit by gunfire.

PPB's Enhanced Community Safety Team, one of two gun violence response teams managed by the agency, was notified.

Last school year, Portland Public Schools struggled with a series of shootings near school campuses, particularly high schools. Several of these shootings near schools injured students. So far, this year has not seen a repeat of this violence.

In March 2023, three young men were shot and killed near University Park in North Portland, including 19-year-old Roosevelt High School student Isaac Daudi.
