Police officer shot, suspect dies in South Baltimore

A Baltimore police detective was injured and a suspect died in a shooting Friday evening. Baltimore Police Commissioner Richard Worley said the detective was shot around 10:25 p.m. Friday in the 3400 block of South Hanover Street in Brooklyn. The officers involved are placed on ten-day administrative leave, per protocol, and their body-worn camera video is being reviewed. Police said at least three officers were involved in the shooting. “We are extremely grateful and grateful that our officer was not seriously injured during this incident,” said Mayor Brandon Scott. “We want to thank him and his fellow officers for doing exactly what they should be doing. An 11 News crew at the scene observed at least eight evidence markers on the ground in a very large cordoned off area.

The Maryland Attorney General's Office was on scene in conjunction with the Baltimore Police Department. They will release the name of the suspect and the officers involved, pending there are no security concerns, in the coming days.
