A police officer was attacked at the city's Boston Pride event, where three people were arrested in what police are calling “an evolving situation.”

Boston Police Officer Mark Marron said “the situation is evolving” but so far it has not risen to the level of an emergency response by the department. He said the only response so far was the police, already tasked with maintaining order.

BPD Sgt. Det. John Boyle later confirmed that three people, two women and a man, were arrested at the event. All will likely be charged with disturbing the peace while one will also be charged with assault and battery on a police officer.

Boyle said that person threw a water bottle full of water at the officer.

The context of the situation was not immediately clear at Berkeley Street. As of 1 p.m., those arrested were still not registered.

Boston Pride for the People includes three separate events: a parade lasting from 11 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., a festival on Boston Common scheduled for noon to 6 p.m., and a block party at City Hall from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m.

“We have over 300 contingents registered to march, with nearly 15,000 people celebrating in their own way from Copley Square to the South End, before spilling out into the festival on Boston Common. They come from all walks of life: community organizations, youth agencies, schools, small businesses, faith-based institutions, large corporations, advocacy groups, individuals and many others,” organizers wrote on the event’s website. “The beauty of how we live our truth as LGBTQ+ people will be on full display – In Living Color. »

The parade started at Clarendon Street and continued on Tremont Street, then Berkeley Street, Boylston Street, then Charles Street.

This is a developing story.
