Police: Missing Person's Case Now Murder-Suicide

A disappearance case is currently being investigated as a murder-suicide, according to police.

A body found May 23 in Orchidland Estates has been identified as Ashley Michelle Kuregian, 38, of Keaau. His body was in an advanced state of composition when it was discovered. A follow-up forensic examination determined Friday that she died from a single gunshot wound to the head, and the circumstances of her death were ruled a homicide.

Police also identified a man who shot himself on May 23 as police arrived to execute a search warrant related to Kuregian's disappearance.

The man was identified as Matthew Adrian Poole, 38, and the warrant was for his home on 15th Avenue Hawaiian Paradise Park.

Police say Poole was Kuregian's boyfriend and reported her missing on May 21. He reportedly told police he hadn't seen Kuregian since May 14.

A May 24 autopsy on Poole determined he died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head, police said.

The investigation continues and police are asking anyone with information to contact Detective Amy Omaya at (808) 961-2381 or [email protected], or the police department's non-emergency line at (808) 935-3311.
