It's unclear what exactly led to the shooting, but some neighbors tell ABC10 it may have started with a fight.

SACRAMENTO, Calif. — A man was arrested on suspicion of assault charges after a shooting Monday left four other people in a hospital.

The Sacramento Police Department said Wednesday that Sacramento Chief Jayovanni, 23, was taken to the hospital after a shooting in the Meadowview neighborhood and is now considered a possible suspect.

Head was jailed on assault charges, according to the police department. It is unclear whether these charges are directly related to the shooting. ABC10 asked police to clarify how Head was injured in the shooting, but they did not respond to specific questions.

According to Sacramento police, the Memorial Day shooting was reported around 8 p.m. at an apartment complex in the area of Meadowview Road and Coral Gables Court.

Officers found five people, including Head. Four adults and a teenage girl were taken to the hospital with at least one gunshot wound.

The identities of the people have not been released, but police said there were 2 men and 2 women, in addition to Head.

A police spokesperson said all five people were in stable condition and expected to survive.

It's unclear what led to the shooting, but some neighbors told ABC10 Tuesday it may have started with a fight.

Many have kept a low profile for fear of reprisals, but a few people say they remember a group of children playing with water guns before the shooting took place.
