Police launch investigation into alleged murder of man in Ondo

Detectives from the Ondo State Command of the Nigeria Police Force have launched an investigation into the murder of a middle-aged man, Seidu Jamiu, who was confirmed dead overnight.

Jamiu was reportedly confirmed dead at his residence in Akungba Akoko, Akoko Local Government Area, South-West of the state, while the circumstances of his death remained unknown.

According to the police command, the wife of the deceased, Omolara, reported the incident at Akungba Akoko police station in the early hours of Saturday.

A family source, who requested anonymity, said the man was rushed to hospital for medical treatment, but was confirmed dead at the hospital, while his remains were was dropped off at the morgue.

While confirming the incident, the state Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Funmi Odunlami, said the wife of the deceased reported to the police station in the morning that some people killed her husband in his room at midnight on the fateful day.

She, however, could not confirm the allegation that the man was killed by his wife, but said her wife had reported the incident to the police station.

She also indicated that no arrests had been made in this regard at the time of our interview with our correspondent.

The PPRO said: “I cannot confirm that the victim’s wife killed him because she was the woman who reported the matter to the police station.

“We have not made any arrests at this time but an investigation has begun into the incident.”
