When officers arrived, they were directed to an apartment complex that the man may have entered. Moments later, police encountered the suspect who was armed with a long gun.

Officers said they gave the suspect several commands to drop the weapon, at which point the man pointed the long gun at the officers and made them unload their weapons, according to LVMPD Capt. Kurt McKenzie.

The gunfire injured the man and a medical team was called to help him, but he was later pronounced dead at the scene, police said.
