Police investigation continues after businessman's alleged racist comments

WEST Yorkshire Police have confirmed investigations are underway after a Conservative Party donor made alleged racist comments about Diane Abbott.

Frank Hester, chief executive of the Horsforth-based Phoenix Partnership, reportedly said Ms Abbott, Britain's longest-serving black MP, had made him “want to hate all black women” and that she “should be shot “.

Mr Hester admitted making “rude” comments, which were first published in a Guardian article, but said they had “nothing to do with her gender or the color of her skin “.

In March, a West Yorkshire Police spokesperson said officers were “working to establish the facts and ultimately determine whether a crime had been committed”.

The force spokesperson added: “We recognize the strong response to these allegations and appreciate everyone who has contacted us since the article was published.

“As we continue our investigation, we would like to hear from anyone who can directly contribute to our investigation.”

Today the force's spokesperson said “investigations are ongoing” into the matter.

Mr Hester donated a total of £15 million to the Conservatives.

Anyone with information that could help officers with their investigation should call 101 or visit the live chat service on the West Yorkshire Police website, using reference number 13240137018 or quoting 'Operation Brassminster.
