Police investigate shooting in downtown Charlotte that left at least 1 injured

CHARLOTTE, NC (WBTV) – Police are investigating a shooting that left at least one person injured in downtown Charlotte early Friday morning.

The shooting happened around 3 a.m. in the West Trade Street area, near Cedar and Fifth streets, just a few blocks from Truist Field and Bank of America Stadium.

Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Much of the area had been cordoned off with crime scene tape, including in front of the 7-Eleven. CMPD's Crime Scene Investigation (CSI) unit was on scene, setting down a number of markers and taking photos of the area.

Medics confirmed that one person was taken to hospital with life-threatening injuries. While no additional injuries have been confirmed, police scanners indicate that other people may also have been shot but have made their way to hospital.

Hours earlier, the annual July 4th SkyShow took place at Truist Field, with the Charlotte Knights in action. social networks that it welcomed a record crowd.

Officers at the scene said they were actively investigating the shooting.

At least three other people were injured in other shootings in Charlotte overnight, according to the Medic. The first left one person injured on Norwood Drive in the northwest corner of the city, while the second left two people injured on Babbling Brook Way in west Charlotte.
