Police investigate fatal stabbing in Attleboro | latest news

ATTLEBORO — State and local police are conducting a homicide investigation following a fatal stabbing early Monday in the Oakhill Mobile Home Park.

Police Chief Kyle Heagney said police received 911 calls around 3:20 a.m. reporting a disturbance on Melissa Drive and when officers arrived they found a man suffering from stab wounds to his head. outside, on the ground.

The victim, a 47-year-old man whose last known address was in North Attleboro, was taken to Sturdy Memorial Hospital in Attleboro where he was pronounced dead, Heagney said.

A suspect, a 51-year-old man who lives on Melissa Drive, was arrested at the scene and was later arrested, Heagney said.

The man was charged with assault with intent to kill and battery with a dangerous weapon, according to the police chief.

A knife was found at the scene, Heagney said.

The names of the victim and suspect were not immediately released by police.

Heagney said state police assigned to the Bristol County Prosecutor's Office and local detectives are investigating.

No motive has been released.

The suspect was held without bail pending arraignment Tuesday in Attleboro District Court.
