Police identify suspected robber shot dead in Homa Bay, recover gun

Homa Bay police have identified one of the suspected gang members who was shot dead in the Got Kokech area on Saturday afternoon.

The deceased Eli Onyango Otieno was shot dead along with a colleague by police who were chasing them in a car from Homa Bay town.

A police report revealed that Otieno is a resident of Lela village, Nyando sub-county, Kisumu County.

Homa Bay Sub-County DCI Commander Charles Koilenge said he was yet to identify the other suspect.

Police took Otieno's fingerprints before he was identified.

Koilenge said they also recovered a firearm that Otieno allegedly used to commit the robbery.

“This is a Jericho pistol given to a Kenyan police officer. The weapon was reported lost on April 26, 2024 at 5:24 a.m.,” Koilenge said.

The two suspected gang members were killed while fleeing police.

The men were killed in Got Kokech, along the Homa Bay-Kendu Bay road, after their car lost control and landed in a ditch.

Eyewitnesses said the car's occupants and police officers exchanged gunfire.
