Police identify suspect, announce arrest in Chesterfield murder

Chesterfield County police on Tuesday identified the victim of a Sunday homicide on Route 613 as Brian Cosby, 46, of Chesterfield and said officers arrested a suspect in connection with the incident.

Police said officers arrested Dion Rucker, 45, of Rice on Monday in connection with the fatal shooting. Rucker was charged with second-degree murder, aggravated intentional wounding, two counts of using a firearm in the commission of a felony and one count of possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, according to court records.

Officers first went to the 1900 block of Periwinkle Drive around 8:15 p.m. Sunday for a report of a shooting. There, they found two people – including Cosby with apparent gunshot wounds.

Cosby was pronounced dead at the scene. The second victim, identified as an adult female, was transported to an area hospital where her life is in danger. She is currently in stable condition, police said.

Authorities determined Rucker knew the woman, police said. The incident remains under investigation.
