Police identify Carlisle, Iowa, girl killed

Authorities have identified a Carlisle teenager who was killed Sunday in a crash that injured two other people. According to the Iowa State Patrol, a Toyota Camry Solara was traveling northbound on 200th Avenue in Warren County just before 11:30 p.m. Sunday. The vehicle entered the ditch near the intersection of 200th and Delaware avenues, rolled and ejected two of the three occupants. Passenger Hanna Shaffer, 15, was airlifted to a Des Moines hospital. She died from her injuries, according to an Iowa State Patrol accident report. The 16-year-old driver and another 15-year-old passenger were taken to hospital by ambulance; their condition was unknown as of Saturday. That number is 24 fewer than the same time in 2023. Over the past five years, an average of 350 people have been killed each year in crashes across the state. “Our hearts go out to the Shaffer family and all of Hanna's friends during this difficult time,” the Carlisle Community School District posted on its Facebook page. The school also released visitation and funeral details: “Members of his family will receive friends on Monday, June 17, 2024, from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., at the Southtown Funeral Service in Hamilton. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, June 18 at 10 a.m. at Rising Sun Church of Christ “All school district activities for Monday evening have been postponed.

“Our hearts go out to the Shaffer family and all of Hanna’s friends during this difficult time,” the Carlisle Community School District posted on its Facebook page.

“His family will greet friends on Monday, June 17, 2024, from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Southtown Funeral Home in Hamilton. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, June 18 at 10:00 a.m. at Rising Sun Church of Christ.”

All Monday evening school activities are postponed.
