Police identify 316 objectionable social media posts in Beed, register 16 cases

Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar: Beed district police have identified 316 objectionable posts on social media platforms and registered 16 offenses in the last two months, a senior officer said on Tuesday.

Police are closely monitoring social media content in Beed, where violence erupted during the Maratha quota agitation and the homes of some politicians were targeted.

“We have so far identified 316 social media posts and deleted 263. We will trace these people behind the remaining 53 posts,” said police commissioner Nandkumar Thakur. PTI.

Police took prohibitory action against 191 people and recorded 16 violations, he added.

He said that majority of social media posts are related to caste, indecent language and transformation.

Police have selected some of the active members and appropriate action will be taken against them, Thakur said.

Notably, a video purporting to contain remarks against a particular community amid tensions between two caste groups in a village in Beed district has gone viral, prompting leaders of various political parties to make an appeal for peace.

Maharashtra Deputy Chief Ministers Devendra Fadnavis (BJP) and Ajit Pawar (NCP) appealed to maintain peace and avoid such comments.
