Police ID victim, suspect in fatal Chesterfield shooting

Chesterfield County police on Monday identified the victim of a Friday homicide on Bellwood Road as Chelsea R. Johnson, 33, of Richmond, and said they have arrested a suspect in connection with her death.

Police said Darryl M. Charity Jr., 31, of Richmond, was arrested Saturday with the assistance of the U.S. Marshals Service. Charity was charged with second-degree murder, use of a firearm in the commission of a felony and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, according to court records.

His next court appearance is scheduled for July 18.

Officers first went to the 1600 block of Bellwood Road on Friday around 9:34 p.m. to receive reports of shots fired. At the scene, officers found Johnson suffering from an apparent gunshot wound. She was pronounced dead at the scene, according to police.

Police said the preliminary investigation indicates Johnson and Charity knew each other. The incident remains under investigation.
