Police: Fort Valley shooting sends one person to hospital

Police Chief DJ Flores said the shooting happened this afternoon in the 200 block of Vienna Circle.

FORT VALLEY, Ga. — The Fort Valley Police Department is investigating a shooting Thursday that they believe injured one person, according to Police Chief DJ Flores.

He says it happened around 4:15 p.m. in the 200 block of Vienna Circle.

One person is taken to the hospital with what they believe to be gunshot wounds, Flores said. Because it is so early, they are not able to say for sure what his condition is.

Flores says authorities surrounded a residence and arrested a suspect, but he did not have the name of the suspected shooter.

He says police are on scene and still trying to figure out what led to the shooting.

A man was arrested Wednesday on the same street following the shooting death of Micah McCant. They believe he was shot and killed after picking up his daughter from a college graduation party.

Dexter Oliver, 36, was arrested in connection with McCant's death, but Flores said he doesn't know if the two cases are related. While it was on the street, Flores says it happened on another block.

Flores asks anyone with information to call the Fort Valley Police Department at 478-825-3383.

This is a developing story. We will provide more information as it becomes available.
