Police discover five bodies near Chihuahua highway

Chihuahua state police are investigating the scene where five bodies were found Friday near a highway.

EL PASO, Texas (Border Report) – Chihuahua State Police on Friday confirmed the recovery of five bodies abandoned near a highway in the city of Chihuahua.

The state attorney general's office declined to comment on Mexican media reports that the victims were the five rideshare drivers who went missing May 30 in the border town of Ojinaga. The drivers reported to relatives that they were driving to the town across the street from Presidio, Texas, about three hours north of the state capital.

“It will be necessary to wait until the forensic examinations are completed and the Crimes Against Persons Unit presents its initial findings for the identities of the victims to be established,” the attorney general’s office said in a statement.

Chihuahua Police received reports of people possibly deceased on the Chihuahua-Aldama highway at 7:50 a.m. Friday. Videos and photos obtained by a Border Report camera crew in Chihuahua show two naked, bloated male bodies lying on the ground and blankets covering the three remaining bodies.

As of Friday, prosecutors still had no official information on the fate of Abigael Ramos Gonzalez, her son Abigael Ramos Torres, her brother Fabian Ramos Torres, Sandra Salais Calzadillas and Francisco Ivan Flores Hernández.

The five told family members that they were taking tickets to Ojinaga and one of them informed his relatives that he was on his way home. Their cars were located a few days later by relatives using a GPS application.
