Police: Chain necklace likely saved man's life during shooting

DENVER (KDVR) — Police say a man survived a shooting thanks to a chain necklace that stopped the bullet and left him with only a puncture wound.

The Commerce City Police Department posted about the remarkable scene on Facebook Wednesday.

When the victim decided to wear a 10-millimeter silver chain around her neck, she had no idea it would likely save her life.

Following an argument, a .22 caliber bullet was fired into the man's neck, according to police. The bullet struck the silver necklace and lodged in the chain, leaving the man with only a puncture wound. Police said the chain was likely the only reason he was still alive.

The suspect who allegedly fired the shot was arrested at the scene for attempted homicide.

Although police said the necklace was silver in color, they are not sure what type of metal it was. In the Facebook post, police said it did not look like pure silver because it was not soft.

Initially, police alluded to the necklace as being counterfeit, but a Facebook user suggested a different metal. The user suggested it might be platinum and not silver.

Whether the necklace was fake or platinum, he certainly paid what it was worth.
