Police ask for information in 3-year-old unsolved SW OKC fatal shooting case

The family of a Metro man shot and killed three years ago continues to search for answers.

Oklahoma City police said Wednesday that the shooting that left four people injured and one dead has gone cold.

Police said someone opened fire in June 2021 on a crowd gathered in a parking lot of a southwest Oklahoma City apartment complex. No one has provided information to solve the case.

Residents near Southwest 61st Street and Douglas Avenue told News 9 they often hear gunshots coming from that apartment complex. Three years ago, the shooting turned deadly, killing 28-year-old Larry McDowell.

“To my knowledge, no one was fighting, so we really don't know what caused this person to start shooting at the group of people,” said Msgt. Gary Knight, Oklahoma City Police Department.

Police said three other victims, possibly four, were hit by the shooting but were not seriously injured.

“Investigators received information that a fourth person may have been shot and simply did not report it,” Knight said. “Obviously he’s someone we want to talk to and see what he knows.”

A neighbor told News 9 that the day after the shooting, they saw someone jump in a car and leave the scene. Homicide investigators spoke to witnesses and followed advice.

“But that still didn’t lead us to a suspect,” Knight said.

Without a suspect and an unknown motive, the case remained unsolved. Police are urging the public to report any tips related to the shooting, even if it is a minor incident.

“Maybe this is the information that will help us solve this case,” Knight said. “Someone knows who did this and what it was about.”

The number to call is the homicide tip line at (405) 297-1200.
