A traffic stop turned into a foot chase and drug bust in Bristol Township last Thursday, police say.

At 1:08 p.m., a license plate reader alerted an officer to the presence of a vehicle with a suspended registration in the area. The vehicle, a Toyota, was linked to the registration, but the plate was instead displayed on a gold Infinity sedan, police said.

The officer spotted the Infinity heading north on Veterans Highway and attempted to stop near Rockview Drive, police said.

Although the officer activated his vehicle's emergency lights and siren, the driver continued toward the shopping complex in the 1200 block of Veterans Highway, police said.

While inside the shopping complex, the driver of the Infinity, who was later identified as Nicholas Campbell, 43, of Burlington, New Jersey, exited the vehicle and began fleeing on foot while holding a black bag and a tan shoulder bag, police said.

After a brief pursuit, Campbell was apprehended by an officer, police said.

A search of the bags revealed a “significant quantity” of drugs, including suspected pre-packaged cocaine and methamphetamine, which appeared to be intended for distribution, police said.

Authorities said they also found an assortment of medications, a black digital scale with white residue and new packaging materials.

Campbell was charged with a number of drug offenses and evading arrest or detention on foot. He was arraigned preliminarily before District Judge Kevin Wagner and held on 10 percent bond of $300,000. Bail was lowered Tuesday by a Bucks County Common Pleas Court judge to 10 percent of $100,000.
