Police arrest man for stabbing in Isle of Wight town

POLICE have arrested an Isle of Wight man following a stabbing in Shanklin town centre.

Officers were called to the High Street, outside the Shanklin Conservative Club, at around 6.20pm last night (Friday), following a report of a serious assault on a man.

It was reported that a man in his 50s was stabbed, suffering a puncture wound to his back and a cut to his arm.

He was immediately taken by the Isle of Wight Ambulance Service to St Mary's Hospital.

Shortly afterwards, officers arrested a 36-year-old man from Ryde on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm with intent.

He currently remains in detention.
