Police: Albany teen raped at gunpoint

A 17-year-old from Albany is accused of using a weapon to intimidate a person during a rape. Four other people also face charges.

Police responded to the area of ​​North Main Avenue and Manning Boulevard on May 18 after receiving reports of a sexual assault. Detectives with the Albany Police Department's Child and Family Services Unit have determined the identity of the suspect.

On Wednesday, police searched a residence in the 500 block of Lark Drive, near Manning Boulevard. They arrested the suspect and found four handguns, two of them loaded, police said.

The 17-year-old's name has not been released due to his age. He was charged with rape, menacing and five counts of criminal possession of a weapon. He was arraigned in Albany County Family Court and sent to the Capital District Secure Juvenile Detention Center.

A 15-year-old girl has been charged with five counts of criminal possession of a weapon. She was released on a citation and will appear at Albany County Probation at a later date.

Chyna Dowdell, 19, was charged with five counts of criminal possession of a weapon. She was arraigned in the City of Albany Criminal Court and sent to the Albany County Jail with bail set at $20,000.

Shaheim Smith, 22, was also charged with five counts of criminal possession of a weapon. He was arraigned in the City of Albany Criminal Court and sent to the Albany County Jail on $40,000 bail.
Octavia Smith, 40, was charged with eight counts of criminal possession of a weapon. She was arraigned in the City of Albany Criminal Court and sent to the Albany County Jail.
