Point Fire causes evacuations, burns 900 acres

The Point Fire, which broke out Sunday in Sonoma County, has burned 900 acres and prompted evacuation orders near its point of origin at Lake Sonoma, authorities said.

Cal Fire reported the fire was first reported at 12:33 p.m. in an area about 12 miles northwest of Healdsburg.

As of Sunday evening, the state fire agency reported that the fire had consumed 900 acres and was 15 percent contained. No serious injuries or property damage were immediately reported.

Evacuation orders have been issued for residents of Fall Creek Road, Stewarts Point-Skaggs Spring Road and West Dry Creek Road. Evacuation warnings – alerts telling residents to be ready to leave – have been issued for areas extending south of Lake Sonoma.
