PM Update: Another pleasant night, with temperatures near 90 degrees Wednesday

It was another day of pleasant temperatures and humidity, especially when you remember it's early July. Highs are mostly in the 80-86 F range, which is lower than the city's average of 84 F. The average rises to 90 F on the 6th, and just in time, we apparently have a lot of 90 F temperatures coming our way.

Chilly start: Last night, the temperature didn't quite feel like July in the mountainous areas west of us. In Canaan Valley, just 120 miles as the crow flies from D.C., the temperature dropped to freezing, according to Bob Leffler, a retired climatologist with the Weather Service.

“It is not uncommon for the floor of the highest Canaan Valley in eastern North America (3,200 feet) to reach freezing or below for all three summer months,” Leffler wrote in an email.

There were also areas of frost, including in Bittinger, Maryland, according to a report shared in a conversation with CWG's Jeff Halverson.
