PLYMOUTH — Chief Neil Foley reports the Plymouth Fire Department extinguished a house fire at 3 Howland Court yesterday.

On Thursday, June 27, at approximately 4:04 p.m., the Plymouth Fire Department responded to a call from a 16-year-old male resident. Upon arrival, firefighters observed an attached shed on the side of the home engulfed in flames, which extended down the side of the single-family wood-frame home.

The occupant, alone at home at the time, was able to evacuate safely before the firefighters arrived.

Crews extinguished the exterior fire. When they reached the second floor, they found that the fire had spread to the walls and roof of the house.

Firefighters extinguished flames on the second floor and had the fire under control in about 30 minutes. Crews remained on scene for two hours and carried out extensive repairs to uncover hidden fires. No one was hurt.

The Carver and Kingston fire departments provided coverage for the station, handling several calls for service. In total, the Carver, Kingston and Plymouth fire departments responded to 12 additional calls while the Howland Court fire was being extinguished.

“Thanks to the quick response of the homeowner’s son and the 911 call, we were able to quickly get the fire under control,” Chief Foley said. “On behalf of the Plymouth Fire Department, I thank them for taking action and preventing the fire from spreading and endangering our neighbors.”

All three residents are currently displaced and working with the American Red Cross to secure temporary housing.

The cause of the fire does not appear to be suspicious in nature and remains under investigation by the Plymouth Fire Department.
