Pixar's Inside Out 2 Captures How I Felt as an Anxious Teenager, and Everyone Needs to See It

Spoilers for Inside Out 2 lie in front. If you have not seen the sequel which is available on 2024 movie calendaryou can see it in theaters now.

Although it is difficult to rank the best Pixar films, Upside down has always been my favorite. When the first trailer for Inside Out 2 came out and introduced anxiety as a new emotion, I knew I was heading for another emotional journey. I had high hopes for the new film and somehow it managed to exceed them all. Just like the first film, the sequel tells a carefully crafted story about how our emotions affect us. As someone who suffered from anxiety as a teenager in high school, I can honestly say that the character with Maya Hawke's voice made me feel seen, and that's just one of the reasons for which people need to go see the film in the cinema.

Judging by the phenomenal opening box office numbers for Inside Out 2I'm far from the only one who went out to see the film last weekend. The hour-and-a-half-long film is actually a coming-of-age story that follows Riley as she once again grapples with monumental changes in her life. I think everyone can relate to the struggles Riley faces in the film, even if you've never dealt with anxiety. But there were certain moments that made me feel like I had traveled back in time and watched myself as a teenager on screen. Pixar may not have aimed to specifically cater to people like me when making this film, but I can't help but think that I was the target audience.
